Some Tuesday Morning Cute..... Bleached Pillows

I love all things pillows. Of course you all should know this about me by now. These pillows we created by Amanda over at Burlap and Denim and they have made my "I just love theses list." Amanda gave these pottery barn denim pillow covers a face lift with an stencil, a little bit of bleach, and lots of creativity. This best part of it all, is she show us step by step how she achieved the look. This project seems simple enough to tackle in an afternoon. Thrift Store Finds.....

I've been on the hunt for a new headboard for months now. When I finally decided to make my own I ran across this gem. I stopped over at Habitat for Humanity looking for some side table that would work with my design scheme on another project, and low and behold the design Gods we shinning down on me. This queen size headboard was priced at $25.00 and I was not about to let it pass me bye. I'm so excited to get started working on it. A little TLC is all this headboard needs and I'm ready to nurture it. Headboard make over take one.  There are plenty of unseen treasures at your local thrift store. If you are a DIYer like myself take some time to shop your local stores before diving into your next project. You might find it a little more satisfying doing the work yourself and a bit more budget friendly by going the thrift store route.

Fun At The Fair..... Reneagade Craft fair

It’s kind of late in the week, but that’s ok I’ve been working hard this week on a mobile home project. I still want to re-cap about the Renegade Craft Fair. This past Saturday I took the family out for a day of fun filled crafts at the 3^rd Annual Renegade Craft Fair, and we enjoyed every minute of it. So many great vendors at the fair, there was so much to choose from. I have a love like no other for hand made items. They seem to have more love and creativity in each piece. We are all students in life, and there’s always something new to learn. I learned a lot about crafting ,and picked up a few projects to try at home myself at this fair. It was very family friendly, my son and I enjoyed creating a few crafts of our own to take home. There was inspiration in the air I could just smell it. I learned so much, saw plenty, and picked up a few items that were simply must haves. DIY Fun..... Recycle, and Reuse.... Felt Purse

I made this little Felt purse for my mother for Valentines day. I stuffed it with all kinds of goodies from Bath and Body works. She loved it and the goodies. It was the simplest thing to make and took under an hour to do. As adults we don't tend to grow out of our clothes as fast as children do, so plenty of my sons winter sweater get recycled into something fun. This purse was made from a wool felt sweater that was way too small for him, and I just could not give it to good will the fabric was way to nice so I held onto it until it found it's purpose. Below I explain how it was made and it's all done in just a few simple steps. 

Start by making sure the sweater is clean. Washing a wool sweater helps make the fabric easy to work with.

Next you want to cut off the sleeves of the sweater.

The neck line of the sweater is the next to go. This will makes the straps of the purse. Make sure you measure evenly on both side as to how wide you would like the straps.

Most sweaters have a ribbed bottom, cut that off and it will act as the bottom of the purse. 

Cut it to fit the bottom of the sweater and pin it in place in order to be sewn together. Be sure the bag is sewn inside out. You may be thinking well DUH Myisha, but Trust me I've had to redo plenty of things due to this small mistake. 

Once you are done sewing flip the bag right side out. You should come out with something like this.

I used the left over fabric to add some flowers and embellish the bag a little it.

I've decided to enter the "Ready Aim Redesign" contest that Dwell magazine is hosting. I'm so excited about this opportunity. For all who know me, know the one thing I love to do is redesign. A trip to the goodwill store can and has been turned into a living room makeover. Everything old has the potential to become new again with a little TLC. Here are a few of my redesigns, and makeovers. The first set of photo's are of a mirrored tray that belonged to my mother. She's had this tray for years, and I've always admired how elegant it appeared on her dresser with all her fancy perfumes being showcased on it. How I sweet talked her into giving it to me I'll never tell, but it's mine now. I figured with a new vibrant color I could make it fit my style perfectly. The second set of photo's are of another piece that has been around the house for a long while. My dad loved to keep a nice bottle of wine on hand for any unexpected occasion. I just couldn't part with the wine rack at the garage sale. It had so much potential. The last set of photo's are these small side tables that my friend parents had in their back yard. These tables were so fun to redesign. I was told do what you like, music to my ears. These tables were used for a summer time  back yard birthday bash. So the bright colors seemed appropriate. I'm really unsure about what it is that I will redesign for this contest, but what ever it is I will keep you all posted thought out the process. 

DIY Fun..... Hang it Up...

I decided to down size the furniture in sons room to make more room for a very rambunctious little boy. The bigger he got, the more useless the dresser with the changing table became. While taking the dresser apart to move it out of the room I thought to myself, these dresser drawers can be used for something fun. I decided to use them as coat racks. I never seem to have anywhere to hang my coat or purse for that matter when I walk in the door. These dresser drawers would be perfect for that task. With a few coats of  paint and some mounting tape I had an instant coat rack. This was so simple and so easy I was a little upset with myself that I had not done it sooner.

Added a cute little bench I had in the garage that I refurbished. A few hand sewn pillows for some flare.

I love to bring new life to items that others may see as dead. I am currently redecorating my bed room and needed a new chair for my desk. While on a search for the perfect chair I came across this one at my local Good Will store for $5.00. At $5.00 this chair was a must have. I immediately got to work on transforming this chair into an eye catching piece. I started by stripping the finish off the chair with a stripping gel. This process takes a little time and a lot of elbow grease. When I was done striping the chair I sanded it down really well to get rid of any imperfection. I then used two coats of white paint and a clear finish, which gave the chair a crisp look. To recover the seat cushion I used a fabric that I've been wanting  to use for a while now. I was waiting for the right project, didn't want to waist good fabric. This project took longer then i expected but it was well worth it. In the end I am very pleased with the final results.
